How to count points in Ronda

By The Atlas Carta teamUpdated on ✓ Rules checked in the app

In the Ronda card game, points come in throughout the round, then one last time when the cards are counted. This page brings together the scoring used in the Atlas Carta app, worked examples and an online score sheet for games with a real deck.

Points scored during the deal

Chain plays, Missas and declarations are final gains: they go on the scoreboard the moment they are earned, without waiting for the end of the round.

  • Chain plays: the gain is earned when the chain stops (the next player plays another value, a new deal starts, or the fourth copy is played). Only the last player in the chain scores — 1, 5 or 10, never the total.
  • Missa: earned the moment a capture leaves the table empty (except with the very last card of the round, played by the dealer).
  • Declarations: scored straight away if the type alone settles the winner (only one team has a Tringa); otherwise at the end of the deal, when values are revealed.

Chain play + Missa: 2, 6 or 11 points

When the last player in a chain collects the pile and the table ends up empty, they add the Missa to their play:

Declarations: who scores and how much

The rule that surprises newcomers most: the best declaration takes the value of all declarations made in the deal, including your opponents’. Tringa beats any Ronda; between Rondas (single or double), the highest pair wins; in an exact tie, the total is split (half points rounded down). Partners never compete: the better of their declarations represents the team.

Counting cards at the end of the round

Once all 40 cards have been played, any cards left on the table go to the side that captured last. Each side then counts its cards: 20 cards are worth 0 points, and each card above 20 scores 1 point. With fewer than 20 you score nothing — but you lose nothing either. Since the deck has 40 cards, only one side can earn this bonus.

Winning at 33: the game stops instantly

The score is checked after every gain. As soon as one side reaches 33, the game ends, even mid-round — the card bonus is then not counted. If both sides are tied on 33 or more, play continues until one pulls ahead.

Round 5: winning mid-round

You are on 31, they are on 29. Mid-round, your partner makes a B'wahed and, collecting the pile, clears the table: B'wahed + Missa = 2 points. The score reaches 33 and the game ends on the spot. It does not matter that they had captured more cards so far: the end-of-round count never happens.

Perfectly tied declarations

If the best declarations of both sides are equally strong (two Rondas of 5s, for example), the total is shared: each side gets half, with half points rounded down.

End of round: counting the cards

The total is always 40 cards, so the other side is worked out for you. 20 cards = 0 points, +1 for each card above that.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a B'wahed worth in Ronda?

1 point, or 2 points if it comes with a Missa (the table is empty after the pick-up).

Do B'wahed, B'khemsa and B'3echra points add up?

No. In the Atlas Carta app only the last player in the chain scores: 1, 5 or 10 points. Some tables add them up; that is a variant.

How many cards do you need to score at the end of a round?

More than 20. Each card above 20 scores 1 point: 25 cards = 5 points. With 20 or fewer you score nothing.

What happens if declarations are tied?

If both sides’ best declarations are exactly equal (two Rondas of 5s, say), the total of all declarations is split, half points rounded down.

Can you win a game of Ronda mid-round?

Yes. Points are added as you go, and the game ends as soon as one side reaches 33.

How much is a Tringa worth?

5 points, plus the value of every other declaration in the deal if it is the best one.
