Why play Belote on Atlas Carta
A good game of Belote means four players, a partner across the table and rules everyone follows. On Atlas Carta you get all of that without having to gather a table: you play with other players or with your friends, wherever you are, and the app makes sure the rules are respected on every card.
- Rules enforced, no arguments: follow suit, trump, overtrump, go higher in trumps… only legal cards can be played. Perfect for learning without mistakes.
- Scoring done for you: tricks, last-trick bonus, declarations, Belote-Rebelote, made or failed contract, tie — the result of every hand and the game score are calculated automatically.
- Declarations just like at a real table: Suivis and Carrés declared during the first trick, compared at the second, and Belote-Rebelote called as you play the 11 and 12 of trumps.
- With friends or against other teams: private tables for your group, public tables and a 2 vs 2 tournament every evening.
- Leagues every week: seven weekly leagues: the more games you win, the higher you climb in the week’s ranking.
- Learn by playing: guided games and Belote exercises to understand taking, the playing obligations and declarations before your first real table.
- Four games in one app: Belote, Touti, Ronda and Rami, with a single account.
To improve before your first table, this site has you covered: step-by-step rules, 15 strategy tips, a quiz to test your reflexes and a tour of Belote variants around the world.
What Belote on Atlas Carta offers
Belote joins Touti, Ronda and Rummy in the same app, with the same comfortable play as the other three games.
Private tables with friends
Invite your friends and play together, the four of you. It is the easiest way to keep your weekly Belote night going, even when everyone is at home.
Public tables and tournaments
You can also sit at a table with other players or enter a 2 vs 2 tournament.
The Spanish deck, card for card
Choose Spanish cards for Moroccan Belote or French-suited cards for French Belote. Both use the same core rules with declarations. In the Spanish deck, the 10 (Sota) corresponds to the Jack, the 6 to the 9, the 11 (Caballo) to the Queen and the 12 (Rey) to the King. Our card equivalence table explains the mapping.
How a hand is played
- The deal: each player gets 5 cards (a packet of 3, then a packet of 2), then one card is turned face up in the middle.
- Take or pass: in the first round, taking means accepting the suit of the face-up card as trumps. If everyone passes, a second round lets a player take by naming another suit.
- Completing the deal: the taker picks up the face-up card plus 2 more cards; the other three get 3 each. Everyone now holds 8 cards.
- 8 tricks and declarations: the player to the dealer’s right leads; during the first trick, everyone may declare their sequences (Suivis) and fours (Carrés).
- Scoring: add up the cards won, the last-trick bonus, the declarations and Belote-Rebelote. The taking team must score more than the other team.

The essential rules: card values
Everything depends on whether a card is a trump or not. In trumps, the 10 and the 6 become the strongest cards; in the other suits, the Ace rules.
| Card | French-suited equivalent | Trump | Non-trump |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 (Sota) | Jack | 20 | 2 |
| 6 | 9 | 14 | 0 |
| 1 (Ace) | Ace | 11 | 11 |
| 7 | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| 12 (Rey) | King | 4 | 4 |
| 11 (Caballo) | Queen | 3 | 3 |
| 5 | 8 | 0 | 0 |
| 4 | 7 | 0 | 0 |
Trump order: 10 > 6 > 1 > 7 > 12 > 11 > 5 > 4. Non-trump order: 1 > 7 > 12 > 11 > 10 > 6 > 5 > 4. The obligations (follow suit, trump, overtrump, go higher) are detailed in the complete rules.
Scoring at a glance
- 162 trick points per hand: 152 in the cards + 10 for the last trick (“dix de der”).
- Capot: a team that wins all 8 tricks counts 252 instead of 162.
- Declarations: a Suivi of 3 cards (e.g. 5-6-7 of cups) = 20, 4 cards = 50, 5 or more = 100; four 10s = 200, four 6s = 150, four 1s, 7s, 11s or 12s = 100.
- Belote-Rebelote: the 11 and 12 of trumps in the same hand = 20 points, kept even if the team fails its contract.
- Contract: the taking team must score more than the other team. Otherwise it is “inside”: the defenders score 162 plus the declarations.
For a specific case, use our Belote score calculator: it applies exactly the app’s scoring, ties and reserve included.
Declarations and Belote-Rebelote
During the first trick, as you play your first card, you can declare a Suivi (at least 3 consecutive cards of the same suit, e.g. 10-11-12 of coins) or a Carré (four cards of the same rank, e.g. the four 10s). At the start of the second trick, the best declaration of each team is compared: only the winning team scores, but it scores all of its declarations.
Belote-Rebelote is called separately: “Belote” when you play the first of the two cards (11 or 12 of trumps), “Rebelote” when you play the second. Everything is explained, including ties, in our guide to Belote declarations.
Getting started: 5 simple tips
- Don’t take with a single big trump. With the 10 or the 6 of trumps plus two other trumps, taking becomes reasonable.
- Count the trumps. There are 8 per hand: once the 10 and the 6 are gone, your middle trumps become masters.
- Think about the last trick. It is worth 10 extra points: keeping a trump for the end can decide the contract.
- Never forget to declare. A declaration not made during the first trick is lost.
- Let your partner win when they are master. If you can’t follow suit, you are then not forced to trump: throw away a small card. Careful: when trumps are led, you must always go higher.

Frequently asked questions
Can I already play Belote on Atlas Carta?
Yes: Belote is available in the Atlas Carta app, alongside Touti, Ronda and Rummy. Our guides to the rules, declarations and scoring help you prepare your games.
How many players do you need for Belote?
Four, in two teams of two sitting opposite each other. Two- and three-player variants exist elsewhere, but the app only offers classic 2 vs 2 Belote.
Do I need to know Spanish playing cards?
No. You can choose French Belote and its French-suited cards. If you choose Moroccan Belote, every Spanish card has an equivalent in the French-suited deck: the 10 (Sota) acts as the Jack, the 6 as the 9, the 11 as the Queen and the 12 as the King.
How many points is a game of Belote?
Both variants are played to 1,000 points. The current hand is always finished: if both teams pass the target in the same hand, the higher total wins; in case of an exact tie, a deciding hand is played.
Can I play Belote with friends?
Yes: Belote is available on private tables with friends, just like Touti, as well as on public tables and in tournaments.
Are Coinche or Contrée available?
No. Atlas Carta offers classic Belote with declarations: you take the trump by saying “Take” or “Pass”, with no numbered bids and no No-Trumps or All-Trumps. Coinche and Contrée are bidding variants, different from this one.
Is it Belote, Belot or Bela?
Belote is the French name of the game. Close relatives are played under other names (Belot, Bela, Klaverjas…), sometimes with different rules. This site describes exactly the Belote played in the Atlas Carta app.
