How to count points in Touti

By The Atlas Carta teamUpdated on ✓ Rules checked in the app

Scoring a Touti hand takes two steps: first add up what each team has collected during the hand, then check whether the contract was made to see who scores the bid amount. The calculator below does it all for you, using the same rules as the app.

Hand calculator and score sheet

Pick the declaring team and its bid, enter the card points it collected, say who took the last trick and which Ghna were declared. The calculator applies the Ghna caps, tells you whether the contract was made, and adds the hand to the score sheet until someone reaches 600.

At 70, no Ghna counts.

Card points

Card values in Touti
CardPoints
Ace11
310
Rey (12)4
Cabal (11)3
Sota (10)2
7, 6, 5, 4, 20

Each suit is worth 30 points, so there are 120 card points per hand. The two teams' card points always add up to 120 (not counting the last trick and Ghna). Tip: count the tricks of the team with fewer of them, then work out the other. More on Touti cards.

The last trick: +10

The team that wins the 10th trick adds 10 points. This bonus very often decides a contract that comes down to a few points.

The Ghna and its caps

The Ghna (Rey + Cabal of the same suit in one player's hand) is worth +40 in trumps and +20 in another suit, for the declaring team only, within the limit allowed by the bid:

Ghna caps by bid
BidGhna that count
70None
80A single Ghna of 20 (not in trumps)
90Up to 40 in total
100 and aboveAll of them

All the Ghna rules: the Ghna in Touti.

Contract made

If the declaring team has collected at least its bid (a tie counts), the contract is made. It scores the bid amount, and the defenders score nothing for that hand, however many points they collected.

Contract failed

If the declaring team has collected less than its bid, the contract fails. The defenders then score the bid amount, and the declaring team scores nothing.

3 worked examples

Three Touti hands, scored

Bid 80, no Ghna, last trick to the declarers70 (cards) + 10 = 80Made, justDeclarers +80, defenders 0
Bid 90, no Ghna, last trick to the defenders80 (cards)Failed by 10Defenders +90, declarers 0
Bid 100, Ghna in trumps, last trick to the declarers55 (cards) + 10 + 40 = 105MadeDeclarers +100, defenders 0

In the third example, without the Ghna the declarers would only have collected 65, and the defenders would have scored 100. That's why it pays to bid 100 when you hold a Ghna in trumps.

End of the game at 600

Hands add up until one team reaches 600 points and wins the game. Since only one team scores each hand, there can be no tie at 600.

Conceding a hand

A hand can end before the 10th trick if the defenders concede it. Both defenders must agree; the declaring team cannot concede. The hand is then scored as if the declaring team had won all the remaining tricks:

  • the declaring team takes all the cards still in play, including those of the trick in progress;
  • it gets the 10 points for the last trick;
  • any Ghna it still holds and has not declared yet are credited, with the same caps depending on the bid;
  • then the usual rule applies: contract made or failed, and the winning team scores the bid amount.

Frequently asked questions

How many points are there in a hand of Touti?

120 card points, plus 10 for the last trick, plus the declaring team's Ghna: up to 230 at most.

What if you make exactly your bid?

The contract is made: you only need to collect at least your bid. The declaring team then scores its bid amount.

Do the defenders score their own points?

No. If the contract is made, the defenders score nothing. If it fails, they score the bid amount, not the points they collected.

Does the last trick count in Touti?

Yes, it gives 10 points to the team that wins it, declarers or defenders.

Can you concede a hand in Touti?

Yes, but only the defenders, and only if both of them agree. The declaring team then takes all the remaining cards and the last trick (+10), any Ghna still in hand are credited within the caps, and the hand is scored as usual.

How many points is a game of Touti played to?

600: the first team to reach it wins.
